Why You Should Seriously Consider Traineeships
It's a common misconception that every post-school journey is linear. Finish school, go to uni, land a job. Sometimes it's cause we don't know what else is on the cards, other times we feel a bit of pressure from the 'rents.
But university isn't for everyone and it doesn't have to be. Post-school journeys are new, exciting and are all different from one another. There are other ways to get into the career you want, which is why it's worth considering a traineeship.
Chances are you're thinking a traineeship and apprenticeship are the same thing. Well you're on the right track, but there is a difference. While an apprenticeship is commonly associated with tradies who drink choccy milks and servo pies on their way to a construction site, a traineeship is different kind of work.
Instead of trades, a trainee is trained in a vocational area such as business, administration, early childcare, information technology, health services, retail, travel or hospitality. A traineeship is kinda like a 12 month, try-before-you-buy, ‘apprenticeship for the office’, that combines full-time work with a lil' bit of study (generally a year full-time).
From high job satisfaction, job security and doing something you're passionate about, it's definitely worthwhile to suss out a traineeship as a post-school option.
If you want some real insights or want to convince your 'rents why a traineeship is a good idea, our mates over at AFL SportsReady are giving real insights into how traineeships can lead to successful, meaningful, professional jobs – with great salaries!
Over the coming months, they'll be hosting webinars and exploring the diverse industries you can do a traineeship in from sport, marketing, business, education and the arts - hosted by AFL SportsReady alumni who have successful careers from their traineeships. Beauty of it is that they're completely free!
