It’s in human nature to want to have a certain level of control over everything. When we lack control, we don’t feel so red hot.

Right now, in a time abundant in uncertainty and hysteria, it’s a pretty big priority to look after ourselves mentally and physically- you can get through it! Here are some small (yet, gracious) steps that will make sure you're keeping in check with yourself.

1. Healthy eating

You knew it had to be on this list, right? Healthy plate = healthy mind.

I’m definitely not saying to completely cut out treats every now and then, I mean, I think we all deserve a block of chocolate to ourselves once in a while to keep us sane…

But keep your meals nutritional and colourful with vegetables and fruits. It’ll make you feel more clear and level-headed which will help.

2. Exercise

As Elle Woods so perfectly stated: "exercise gives you endorphins... endorphins make you happy." So whilst you're stocking up on your greens and your protein, exercise will help you feel in control of your body.

Youtube is all you need to get fit. Whether you're into yoga, pilates, cardio, boxing, weight-training... youtube all the free workout videos you need.

3. Journal

Journaling allows you to vent, find clarity, draw and recount. Whether you quickly jot down a groovy quote from a movie, write a poem about being in isolation, recount your day or let out your stresses, journalling is food for your soul!

I know it might sound lame, but every week or so, I like to list 5 things I’m grateful for and 5 goals in my journal. I also love to write down ideas for stories, things I want to manifest and hilarious anecdotes.

4. Read

Since our reality isn't too red hot right now, escapism is a perfect stress reliever. Get lost in some fantasy stories or ask some philosophical questions from tales around the world.

Not only will you feel content, you subconsciously learn a tonne through reading and genuinely just become a better human being. I mean, win-win!

5. Re-watch movies

Re-watching movies we've previously watched (preferably movies you loved) is scientifically proven to be a stress-reliever as it is emotionally comforting and calming to see something that we are familiar with.

It calms us since we already know what's going to happen next, making us feel warmer in a scary, unpredictable world. So if you're feeling especially lost, whip out your fave classics.

6. Declutter

Having too much stuff is frazzling. You can never find what you're looking for and things magically pile up, leaving you in a constant state of mess.

Go through your clothes and sell/donate what you don't wear. Get rid of books you don't want, the technology you don't use and equipment you just don't need. Minimalism is hip for a reason!

7. Do what you love

I'm sure there are tonnes of things you love to do but always saw them as a waste of time.

Well, as John Lennon so perfectly stated: "time you enjoy wasting was not wasted". Waste some time doing what you love! Expand those skills of baking, surfing and painting that you may or may not have. Just enjoy yourself because you deserve it.

8. Pamper yourself

Guys and gals, it's time to get pampering. Wash your hair, do some face masks and even paint your nails (I'm looking at you, blokes). Then when you're feeling fresh and hygeinic, try some meditation.

YOU time is the best time.

9. Listen to some bangers

Music is good for you. No, but, for real.

Studies have shown that it can improve blood flow, lower levels of stress-related hormones and ease pain.

Now is the perfect time to find new music, make some new playlists, and dance around all day to The Beatles.

10. Call your mates

I bet you missing hanging out with your mates so make sure to prioritise calling them! Make it a bi-weekly tradition to do a zoom session with your group. This way, you'll be checking in all the iso shenanigans your mates got up to and keeping yourself somewhat sane!
