7 Things You And Your Best Friend Will Go Through In Year 12
Year 12 is a wild year. You'll experience ups and lows you've never experienced before but if you have a best friend by your side, you'll be sure to make it through it all (somewhat) unscathed.
1. You’ll be closer than ever before
Year 12 is a pressure cooker year. Every second thought will be about school in some way, shape or form. This means you and your bestie will have an uncomfortable amount in common. You’ll be going to school together, doing exams together and ripping your hair out together–you’re going to get so close that you'll probably reach a point where you're sick of each other.
2. You’ll get drunk together
Going to 18ths can be truly the best time of your high school lives. You and your best mate will drink too much and have the time of your lives in someone's back yard.
Plus, while the party is fun, the Uber ride home is where the magic happens. There’s such a specific energy being when you're in an Uber with your best friend after a night out that's incomparable to any other regular car ride. Cherish these drives! Pour your heart out to one another! Tell them how much you love them! Then stumble into bed and spend the next day reliving all the embarrassing memories from the night before.
3. You’ll vent to each other
Having a shoulder to cry on is so important during Year 12 and never take it for granted if you have it! Talk to each other, trust each other, and know you’ll be right by each other’s side when you need it.
4. You’ll tell each other that you’re hanging out to ‘study’
Ignorance is bliss! Study sessions that start out with the intention to, ya know, actually study quickly turn into just doing whatever you want. But you deserve to treat yourself to a fake study sesh every now and then.
5. You’ll fight but know you’re always going to make up
Again, Year 12 is a pressure cooker, so things are going to escalate and morph into something they’re not. Remember that your thoughts are muddled, your brain is crammed with memorised exams and, above all, you’re tired. It's normal to get annoyed with each other but you know you'll eventually make up.
6. You’ll cry over exams
Exams are gross but there’s no avoiding them. You’re going to spend your exam periods an absolute mess–so grab your best friend, swap notes and then have a good cry together. Crying will probably become a key part of your friendship at some point; whether it's sending a long video of you breaking down before your exam or tearing up when you get a bad mark back, at least you'll be in it together.
7. You’ll graduate together and cry again
This year is going to feel overwhelmingly long but eventually it will be over, and regardless of how much you liked or disliked high school, it’s going to be a little bittersweet. Graduating is the end of an era. You and your best friend are going to be okay but you'll have to acknowledge that this is the end of one part of your journey and the beginning of another.
