Your teenage years are full of first times. From your first time driving, to your first kiss and your first heartbreak. This is when you’ll be getting your first real taste of freedom and get your first go of heading into the big, wide world on your own.

First time driving on your own

Up till now you’d been cruising the streets with your mum plonked beside you who would dramatically clutch the passenger handle any time you lightly pressed the brakes. But you did your hours, passed your test and are free to do mainys with your mates whenever you want now. You’ll give your most trusted friend the AUX cord, pile in the car and make your way for your first late night Maccas run. Road trips to the beach where you yell at everyone for bringing sand in the car, Kmart runs where you spend too much money and dnms with your best mate in the passenger seat are all on the cards.

First kiss

It will be full of saliva and tongue and at one point you’ll be bumping teeth because you can’t seem to get a rhythm. You won’t know where to put your hands or if your eyes are properly closed but it won’t matter because afterwards the thought of it will make you smile and your belly do somersaults.

First time drinking

You’ll go for Cruisers or Double Blacks because that’s what everyone else is drinking. You will confess your love to your best friends and text your ex boyfriend before kneeling over in the grass and throwing up your guts. Rainbow coloured vomit will teach you what’s it’s like to completely gone and the headache the next day will have you promising to never drink that much again (until the next party).

First heartbreak

Your first heartbreak will be from the boy you thought you would spend forever with. You’ll wonder what happened and spend days in bed thinking over every message and every moment. You will cry- in the car, in the shower and on your way to school and you’ll listen to Adele on repeat and wallow in your sadness. One day you will feel fine and be able to listen to a song without thinking of him and the next day you will be sobbing while you eat your Vegemite toast because that was his favourite.

First job interview

Your hands will be sweaty and your tongue will feel heavy in your mouth. You stomach will feel like it’s full of lead and you will spend what feels like an eternity just trying to remember your name. Afterwards you will second guess how you answered ‘tell me about a time you showed leadership’ and wonder if the interviewer could see your hands shaking.
