Ideas To Stay Sane Over This Long Weekend
Add the long weekend to the list of things stolen from us in 2020. What a drag... but instead of negging out about it and being sad sacks of potatoes, it's time to get those cups of ours half full rather than half empty!
Sure, this long weekend won't be how you imagined or how they normally are, but we can still make it a vibe. Here are some ideas to not only keep you entertained, but also maintain your sanity if you're hanging around your parents all weekend.
1. Bring back Easter Egg hunts
I will never forget the agony I felt when my friends told me that the Easter Bunny wasn't real. "You're lying!" I yelled, voice quivering with heartbreak. Gone were the days of Easter egg hunts, something that I looked forward to every year.
No matter who you live with or how old you are (I'm 21-years-old...sue me), it's time to channel your inner five-year-old and go bonkers over finding easter eggs.
It's the little things in life, and what's more euphoric than searching for chocolate shaped eggs?
2. Games
Odds are you're probably down in the dumps, a little stressed and frazzled, so let's get those spirits of yours up again with some competition, rivalry and wholesome fun.
Blow away the dust on your board games and find a deck of cards. Pictionary and Charades also guarantee hilarious times. Mario Kart will always bring your friends and family together as well. With every time you slip on a banana peel, your troubles will fade away.
3. Get baking
No matter if you're Gordon Ramsay's long lost sibling or you can hardly make toast, it's time to try a little baking.
Baking is therapeutic and a perfect distraction whilst also making you feel accomplished. Get creative with it and decorate your cupcakes or brownies in the spirit of the Easter Bunny. Then, shamelessly devour the treats because it's Easter after all - you're allowed to eat as much sugar as you want.
And you know what everyone is saying, right? In iso, you can either bake banana bread or shave your head. And idk 'bout you, but I'm certainly not getting rid of my luscious locks.
4. Camping
For a lot of us, the long weekend entailed a camping trip away. This might be a little sad on our souls to not be able to do that this year... unless!?
Whip out your tent and camp in the backyard...trust me, it's the funniest thing to do.
Look for shooting stars, share scary stories and toast marshmallows if you can. What's more iconic than camping in your own backyard? Nothing.
5. Online (dance) party with your mates
I mean, duh. Everyone is missing their mates like crazy. Start a group video call with all your friends, have a chinwag, bake together, watch a movie, start a book club, play some trivia. But if you're looking for a real hoot, have a god damn dance party. Crank up the tunes!
Make sure you're still getting daily doses of friends to keep that smile on your dial, especially during this long weekend.
Stay safe, stay sanitised and stay spunky!
