Everything You Need To Do Before Summer Ends
I hate to be dramatic, but when summer ends, my seasonal depression begins to flare up and I desperately just want to go into hibernation for the rest of the year until it's hot again.
So the last fleeting moments of summer are important for me in order to hold onto those memories for the rest of the bleak year... Lmao, I'm being really dramatic. But come on, when I'm not sunkissed, I'm just sad. Sue me.
1. Beached whale
Sorry, a bit of a niche, nuanced pick here, but summer isn't summer without acting like you're seven years old and playing a game of beached whale. Come on, don't pretend you don't know this classic game - in which you lay at the shore and can't move whilst the waves crash onto you. You get tossed around like a beached whale would and laughter ensues. It's quite a sophisticated past time.
2. Go camping
No matter where it is, up the coast, on a secluded beach, in your bloody backyard, whip out your tent, toast some marshmallows and look out for shooting stars. Good times are always guaranteed on a camping adventure.
3. See a sunrise
Wake up early, cry because you're up so early, persevere and go watch that beautiful ball of light that we're so blessed to have burst out into the sky. That ought to inspire you for a new day!
4. Chuck your phone aside and read a book
The amount of time we all spend scrolling up and down social media could easily be traded in for a good book, so why not grab a good read and go sunbake on the sand or sit in a nice park.
Some bangin' books I read this summer were:
- Acid For The Children by Flea
- Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- Hippie by Paulo Coelho
5. Do an exercise class
Exercise isn't normally a word we associate with 'fun', but exercise classes can actually be a hoot. My friend dragged me along to a contemporary dance class and due to my severe lack of coordination, we were pissing ourselves.
Suss out if there are any free exercise classes in your area. Maybe yoga, boxing or gymnastics. Bring some mates and voila, you're having some fun whilst toning up. Yeehaw.
6. See a movie outside
Either at a drive-in or outdoor cinema. Grab some popcorn, get comfortable under the stars and watch a movie before the winter makes it too cold to do that sort of thing outside. What a viiiiibe.
7. Go to a festival or outdoor gig
8. Trek out to a funky spot
You know that waterfall you live 40 minutes from, those unreal cliffs or that secluded beach. Stop saying that you're going to go visit them, and finally do it!
9. Go for a walk
Whether it's a long coastal walk or a bushwalk, get out into nature either by yourself or with a mate or two. If not, go for a bike ride. Or just a scenic drive lmao.
10. Spice up your appearance
Whether it's a tattoo (temporary or permanent), a new hair cut, a new piercing or some new clothes, spice yourself up to end summer with a bang!!
11. Buy a disposable camera
I am obsessed with disposable cameras and bring them everywhere. Now is the best time to hold onto the last moments of summer and take some nostalgic pics of wholesome times. Try not to cover the lens with your finger like I always do...Whoops.
12. Host a gettogether
Whether it's a party at yours, a picnic, a BBQ or a rowdy night on the town, invite your mates from school, work and anything in between and have a good one with everyone.
13. Start something new
Have you always wanted to learn French? Write a book? Film a documentary? Start a blog? Whilst summer ends, why not start something new.
