Think about a career in the beauty industry for a moment.

Chances are, your mind summoned images of hairstyling and eyebrow threading, manicure and pedicures, massages or skilfully applying make-up.

Of course, you’re not wrong! But let’s dig a little deeper on the i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e places and scenarios these skills can take you. Think along the lines of working on a movie set in LA or doing Beyonce’s nails (I know, mindblown).

1. Travelling around the world

The world is your oyster in a beauty career as beauty practices can be done almost anywhere!

Maybe you could travel from event to event, country to country. Perhaps you could work as a spa therapist on an international cruise, gliding through the Caribbean and tanning on your days off. Maybe you want to work in beauty retail in France, the city of love and fashion! The choices and possibilities are endless.

2. Working on film and TV sets

Can you see yourself transforming actors into aliens or werewolves? Delving deep into a character to create their iconic look on screen? We’re talking about Harley Quinn’s pink and blue hair that’s timeless come Halloween, or the cast of Euphoria and their array of glitter and neon eyeshadow.

Think Mario Dedivanovic, the makeup artist for the Kardashians who made contouring go viral or Pat McGrath, the makeup maestro who has painted the faces of Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid to name a few and started her own makeup brand. These MUA’s are living the LIFE!

I once met a makeup artist who’d worked on a tonne of Hollywood movies. She had the best stories of brushing up with some of the most interesting people in the world and would nonchalantly bring into conversation: “Oh yeah, Tom Hardy once cried whilst I was doing his makeup because he felt underprepared for the day of shooting.” Bloody amazing. Not the crying part but being the presence of Tom Hardy.

3. Attending Fashion Week as a writer or blogger

Working at either Paris, New York, London or Milan Fashion Week would be transcendental. Think of the energy, the creative collaborations and the fast-paced backstage environment. But maybe you wouldn’t even be working the fashion week but be invited to attend.

That’s right, you’re a V.I.P! Thanks to being a top gun beauty writer for a certain magazine or having a massive beauty YouTube channel, you’d be invited to every event you could think of… It’d be a real pinch yourself moment, that’s for sure.

4. World famous manicurist

Manicures aren’t just painting nails. It’s full on art! From insane nail art to detailed french manicures, nails are your canvas and a chance to be quirky.

Blow up on TikTok or Insta and you might just end up making connections with an array of glamorous and interesting people from around the world. You could be painting J.Lo’s crystal nails at the Super Bowl or Beyonce’s claws in her ‘Black Is King’ music vid. Spongebob characters, lollipops or just good old shellac… embrace your bold creativity!

5. Running your own business

Why not be your own boss and just create your own business, whether that’s a makeup line, a spa or a salon, to name a few.

The world of beauty is such fulfilling work and creating a business that helps people feel one million bucks inside and out would be so rewarding!
