Why You Should Keep Daydreaming For Next Year
We're always daydreaming, even when we aren't aware. We daydream about what we're going to get up to this weekend. We daydream about future parties, events and concerts. We day dream about travelling, getting our licence, starting uni and moving out of home.
But now, our dare to daydream is beginning to evaporate with this global pandemic. It's stealing our year, our security and our social life. What is there to daydream for? Our weekends are filled with the same routine of sitting inside and wishing we were outside hanging with our mates, going to parties and taking a late night journey in your mates car which is also infamously known as a Maccas run.
Our futures were bright, but now they're clouded with uncertainty. Will I have enough money to travel next year? Will I still land my dream job when this is over? Will my crush remember that I existed? It feels like it's all a bit much.
But in a time like this, it's so important to keep planning for a better future because your future can still be bright. And with all this spare time on your hands, it's the perfect time to think about your future.
You can still keep working towards your dreams in iso. Whether that is practising, doing online courses, watching YouTube tutorials or reading articles on your hobby at hand.
You can still budget money for moving out of home and a car. Plan out how you'll decorate your apartment and work out which mates want to move out with you. Start sussing out some potential pads to live and even some dingy lookin' cars to call your stallion.
You can still figure out what you want to pursue through research and trial.
You can still lust for travel, even if that is a weird thought right now. Watch travel vlogs and read articles, write down good tips you've learnt and figure out what route you'd like to take.
But more importantly, you can still plan and dream for your future, even if it feels like you're in a rut now.
Sure, life is frazzling right now, but look forward to a time when it's not so cooked. Look forward to when you can hang with your friends, give them hugs, party with them, go to the cinemas, hang at the beach, be studying towards your dream career, working or exploring the world.
Keep your mind positive and dream big. Get creative. Make a vision board and stick on pics of your dream car or dream internship. Let your stream-of-consciousness flow by journalling about future goals. Let these creations of yours inspire you to get through isolation. Let these motivate you to keep working towards these goals in the ways that you can right now.
As Ferris Bueller once said: “life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.”
Sure, this isn't how we'd want to stop and look around, but hey, at least this time in iso will make us all the more appreciative of the little things. For now, we can daydream about that time and everything else we want from this crazy, beautiful little thing called life.
