Missing Out On Music Festivals? Don’t Worry, Us Too
I’d sell my soul to be in a field somewhere with glitter-like snow, red-bull rain and the thunder of bangers pumping, staggering through mud, drenched in sweat, arm in arm with my mates and boogieing my little heart out.
If you couldn’t gather already, my festival FOMO is off the charts. I honestly get emotional when I look at my mud-less boots, my draw full of wristbands (don’t judge me) and the out of focus yet euphoric disposable pics plastered across my wall.
And chances are if you’re reading this right now, you’re missing festivals just as much as I am. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say most of us are missing festivals right now.
So, let’s go on this journey together and reminisce on the good times.
1. Pulling your mates into a group chat when a line-up drops
Ah yes, the universal pre-festival planning with chucking in absolutely everybody and anybody into a group chat.
“Who’s coming?”
“We camping or find a house?”
“Can I add four more people to the chat? They’re keen too”
“Oooft, that’s a spicy line-up 🔥”
“Where’s Flume but?”
I cannot stress this enough – the hype is real when line-ups drop. I’m even struggling to contain the excitement right now thinking about all the epic line-ups of 2021.
2. Meticulously planning your day around the set-times
When you and your m8s have secured tix, it’s time to wait around for the set-times. Once they drop, you’ll whip out your Notes app on your phone and schedule in all the people you want to see and their set-time. The inevitable face-crack when Tame Impala and Dave clash. Biggest upset of 2019, trust me.
Time clashes are inevitable, but on the day you and your mates will do your best to get to every god damn stage and tent possible just to catch a glimpse of the artists you love so much. Which brings me to my next thing about festivals I miss the most…
3. Getting to see your absolute favs and icons
It’s what we came for, baby. To see our absolute favs in flesh with our best mates.
And some music festivals are notorious for having one or two ‘meme-y’ artists billed on the line-up, but most of the time they’re deadest legends so I ain’t complaining. I’m talking about Aussie icons The Veronicas, Toto, John Farnham and Wolfmother to name a few. The absolute bliss feeling of getting to scream along to Untouched or You’re The Voice live is priceless. And if you hear my questionable tone-deaf singing on my Insta or Snapchat story - no, I don’t apologise for butchering the anthems. Sue me.
Look, festivals will come out of hibernation eventually. The day will come that we’re sending it in a field somewhere soon and for that day, the world will want more festival planners.
Can you imagine working behind the scenes at Falls Festival, Splendour In The Grass or Bluesfest? What about jet-setting internationally and working on Glastonbury, Primavera and Tomorrowland?
Luckily for you, our mates at JMC Academy have linked up with us to host a competition where you get to plan your dream festival.
I get to plan my dream festival?
You heard correctly – your dream festival. I’m sure you’ve thought about planning the biggest and best festival with some unreal acts, performances and even food trucks.
To enter, all you have to do is head here and answer in 100-150 words:
- What your dream festival would look like
- How you would organise it
- Who would be your top 3 headliners
Now, what do I win?
You could be in the running to win a pair of AirPods Pro and a career mentoring session at JMC Academy with a pretty damn cool industry partner.
This would look bangin’ on your resume if you’re keen on a career in festival. All the while, you’ll be getting invaluable insights on the logistics of running a festival including marketing, talent management, music publishing and negotiations. The mentoring sesh at JMC is absolutely epic because their Bachelor of Entertainment (Business Management) is the golden ticket if you ever wanna organise your own festivals one day.
I know you didn’t ask but fine, I’ll tell you super quickly what mine would look like. It’d be crazy, psychedelic, wonderland vibes with different themed sections and hidden parts. I’d create trippy videos and graphics on Instagram and encourage everyone to wear wild colours and patterns. The headliners would be Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Stevie Nicks (one can dream).
So, keep that smile on your dial because festivals will make a comeback and who knows, you could be a driving force behind their magic. Jump here and get entering! And dont forget to check out all the T's & C's here.
