Why New Year's Eve Is Overrated
Overview
- A reminder that New Year's Eve doesn't need to be massive to be special.
- Take this time to reflect on the big year you've had and give yourself a pat on the back for how far you've come.
Finally, someone has to say it - New Year's Eve is overhyped to the max. Don’t get me wrong, it is what you make it and it can be a super fun night... But because we hype up this one day all year, it’s hard not to feel slightly let down when the night doesn’t feel like a movie.
Whether you’re planning on having a night out on the town, a big party, or you’re kicking back with friends and watching some sneaky fireworks – don’t feel like you have to do something ‘big’ just because it’s New Year’s Eve. The night should be all about reflecting on your year - from the things you’ve achieved to the growth you’ve experienced. NYE doesn’t need to be a massive night in order for you to have fun and feel all sentimental.
My favourite New Year’s events have always been the more wholesome type - whether it’s just a movie night and a few drinks with my closest friends, or a nice dinner and a sunset swim by the beach. New Year’s should feel special for you and make you feel content, so if this means staying home - by all means just stay home. Grab some confetti then countdown those 3 seconds till midnight: 3, 2, 1 - Happy New Year! Run outside, pop that confetti, look up at the stars and wish yourself a Happy New Year. You made it through another year and you’ve conquered so much - so go celebrate in a way that's special to you.
In all honesty, December/Jan is a hectic time of year and with all the pressure we put on ourselves to have a good time and get into the holiday spirit, it’s normal to be feeling overwhelmed and drained. So take time to chill and reflect on the year that was 2022. Be grateful for how far you have come, everything you have achieved, the person you are growing into, and all of the challenges that you have overcome. You should be beyond proud.
