How Can You Plan For Your Dream Uni Course With La Trobe
Overview
- Wish applying to uni was less stressful?
- Luckily for you, applying to La Trobe is a breeze!
Stressed about getting into uni? I mean, at this point, who isn’t? You have to sit exams, choose a career, submit your preferences and decide which uni you actually want to go to. It’s overwhelming just thinking about it.
But the truth is, when you know the best way to go about it, getting into your dream course isn’t actually too difficult. La Trobe University understands how stressful the application process can be, so they’ve made it as easy as possible for you to get into your dream course.
Here are some of the key dates you need to know, and how they’ll help you get into uni.
Early Entry
Early entry is a handy little thing that can secure you a place at uni before you even start your final exams. Most early entry applications open early on in the year, so if you’re in Year 11 right now, it’s worth checking out some of the early entry programs on offer. If you’re already in Year 12, don’t worry, it’s not too late! But don’t wait too long because applications close on 1 September.
La Trobe University has a bunch of programs available, ranging from entry based on your Year 11 results, to the work you do for your community. You can read more about all of the programs they offer here.
Open Day
While Open Days might just seem like an excuse to get a bunch of free stuff (which is defs a bonus), they’re far more important than you might think. Going to Open Day can help you decide which uni fits your needs, and offers the education and practical experience you’re hoping for.
They also give you a chance to make friends and check out the campus and its facilities. Here are all the dates for La Trobe's Open Days.

Preferences
I remember when my uni preferences were due. I barely knew which course I wanted to study, let alone which uni I wanted to go to. On top of that, I was also supposed to know how to submit my preferences through VTAC. Turns out, it’s actually pretty easy. But it helps to know what you’re doing beforehand so you’re not making big life decisions under the pressure of time.
I’d recommend looking into courses you might be interested in well before preferences are due. You can check out every single undergraduate course La Trobe offers here.
If you’re hoping to start university in 2024, the first round of uni preferences begins on the 31st of July and are due by the 28th of September.
To submit your preferences, first, decide which courses you’d like to study and which universities you’re keen to go to. Then, place those courses in the order you would like to study them so that the course that you most want to study is first on your list, and the one that’s your least favourite is last on your preference list.
Universities will then send out their first round of offers. There are multiple rounds of offers, so if you don’t get your first preference, don’t stress! But I’d recommend accepting the offer you’re most happy with because you can always change your mind if you get a better offer down the track!
So if you’re keen to make the uni application process a whole lot easier, head to Open Day to find out all the info you need, look into early entry to give yourself an even better shot at the uni offers you’re hoping for and nail down your preferences before the last minute! Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
