Schoolies is fast approaching. Whether you’re going to the Goldie, Fiji or your grandpa’s holiday house down the coast, it will probably be one of the most memorable experiences of your teenage life.

Here’s some tips to prepare yourself.

1. Condoms

Let’s get this out of the way. Fooling around is fun. Tell you what’s not fun? Chlamydia. Or babies.

2. Pack smart

This seems like a no-brainer but the amount of friends who brought jeans to Fiji on my schoolies ‘just in case’ was astounding. To avoid wasting crucial suitcase space pack smart and light.

You’re probably going to be extremely hungover by the time you head home so the less you have to re-pack, the less likely you’ll vomit in your new Kathmandu bag.

Also, bring sunscreen!

3. Tie-up all arguments with former classmates

If most of your year group is going to the same place for schoolies, being in such a close environment probably won’t help existing feuds between people.

Prepare for drama regardless but try to wrap up as many disagreements as you can before you go, before they’re taken to cat-fight levels of extreme.

4. Detox before you go

It’s safe to assume that schoolies isn’t going to be the healthiest week of your life.

With the mixture of alcohol and whatever drunk food you can get your hands on (love you cheese toasties), your body is going to be pushed to its limits.

Try your hand at detoxing the week before by exercising heaps (so you can get your last minute schoolies bod), drinking lots of water and grabbing an acai bowl so all your friends will know you’ve truly committed to the #detox.

5. Lower your expectations

Okay, hear me out. There’s an excellent chance that schoolies will be one of the greatest weeks of your life but just in case something goes wrong, or you have a falling out with someone, you don’t want your unrealistic idea of schoolies to come crashing down.

The best-case scenario of lowering your expectations is actually having a completely life-changing week, made even better by the fact that you had no major anticipation to start with.
