The end of school is a time of confusion and uncertainty, where you are no longer a child and sometimes not yet an adult. Most people have no idea what they wanna do and there's certainly a united state of nervousness in the air. But there's actually heaps of reasons to be excited for the future post-school.

It’s a time where you can figure out who you are!

A fresh start

The time has finally come to escape people who witnessed you awkwardly fumble through puberty, first kisses, zits, flunked exams and some embarrassing af moments. You can finally ditch the people who stirred up drama for the sake of it and talked shit about everyone behind their back.

Better yet, you can say farewell to the 'friends' you’ve spent every recess and lunch with for the past six years and make new friends who add value to your life and are likeminded.

Move out of home

Freedom! 🙌

Moving out of home is a joyous occasion and a huge step to becoming a ‘real adult’. It brings the promise of freedom and the ability to watch as much trashy television and eat as many woolies mud cakes as your heart desires. You'll come across an array of housemates and probably still call your mum so she can remind you how to cook rice.

Gain independance

Now is the time to do whatever the heck you wanna do. You have no timetables controlling your schedule and the freedom to make what you want of life!

Get a job and buy a car (even if you can only afford a lemon) or pack up your life in a suitcase and skeddadle overseas. The choice is all yours.

Travel the world

Walk the streets of Paris. Learn how to make pasta in Italy. Climb Mount Fuji. Hike the Appalachian trail. See the Great Wall of China. Swim through the Great Barrier Reef. Get in your car and drive. Travel with friends and travel solo.

Explore new places and experience new things. The world is your oyster now, nothing is holding you back!

Attend as many festivals as you want

There's nothing more magical than covering yourself in glitter and dancing arm-in-arm with your mates until your feet ache. Belting out lyrics you think you know and falling from your friends' shoulder in the mosh, you haven't lived until you've been to a fezzy or two

Find your passion

We spend thirteen years with our heads buried in books and cramming for exams, only to think uni is our only option. But uni isn't your only option.

Now is the time to invest in you. Go try new things, and find out what you like and what you don't. Learn bass guitar or Vietnamese, try a photography class or join a volleyball team. Maybe you'll figure out that you despise sewing and suck at cooking, so ditch them all when you realise they aren't up your alley. Talk to people, research, check out the Year13 expo, do a short course or volunteer.

If you're still stuck, suss out a Post-School Plan

Learn from your mistakes

It might feel like all the pressure is on us to have it all figured out, but the truth is, no one is expecting us to get it right first time round. Now's the time to make mistakes and learn from them. That means getting your heart broken, drinking too much at a party, letting go of friendships, quitting your crappy job and getting rejected.

It's all character building!
