Don't Stress, You've Got Time
There is a tonne of pressure to be extraordinary. To find success, fame, and fortune. To make a name of ourselves. To live up to everyone's expectations of us. To prove that we are worthy of our place in this world.
But with this pressure comes a bunch of people full of shame and disappointment because they haven't achieved the best yet. The pressure weighs down on them more and more. And to that, I say...
Calm down! Relax! You have time so stop being so hard on yourself! You don't have to have it all figured out yet!
Did you know that Oprah was fired from her first reporting job at 23-years-old? Yep. Now look at the Queen doin' the damn thing.
Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer at 24-years-old.
Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and went to art school at 27-years-old.
Harrison Ford was a carpenter at 30-years-old.
Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn't receive the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, but designed her first dress at 40-years-old.
Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40-years-old.
Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career to pursue acting at 42-years-old.
Samuel L. Jackson scored his first movie role at 46-years-old.
Morgan Freeman landed his first major movie role at 52-years-old.
What can these talented people teach you? Take time to smell the roses! Take time to work on yourself and figure out what you actually wanna pursue.
Work at that pub job so that you can keep writing that screenplay. Work at that cafe so you can afford new DJ decks.
Travel (internationally too, when ya can of course), do short courses, muck around with mates, take up new hobbies and figure out who the heck you are. Take small steps every day instead of trying to land that massive leap. You have time. So enjoy it!
