How can I find my passion?

That is a pretty loaded question.

I mean, passions come in different shapes, sizes and colours. A passion is different for everyone. So how are we meant to find our own?

For such a massive topic, sometimes less is more. Here are some little things that you can do that might just spur you onto a funky path, inspire you or motivate you towards a passion!

1. Listen to people

You never know who could inspire you or who could lead you to an amazing opportunity. Whilst no one can give you all the answers, people can give you a helping hand.

Out of high school, my mate had NO clue what she wanted to pursue. Every day she had another idea. Acting, biomedical science, politics, teaching... she could see herself doing it all. So she'd ask everyone she knew what they thought she would do, what they thought about her career options... Eventually, she found her path.

2. Try it all

When you’re on the journey to figuring out what you love most, this is one of the most crucial steps and it’s actually quite simple.

Do a lot of things.

It’s better to have lots of options and interests than none at all. And hey, I don't want to pursue violin but man is it fun to be able to slide into conversations "oh yeah, I play the violin, NBD".

Do a graphic design class, watch video editing tutorials online, volunteer, challenge yourself to write 500 words every day, buy a second-hand surfboard and start carving some waves...

You might just end up loving something and it might just lead you to something grander.

3. Watch Ted Talks

There is an answer for everything in Ted Talks. Here are a few of my fave talks on this topic!

4. Take note of each day

Some journal, some take photos. Personally, I recount my thoughts, feelings and goals to my phone through the voice memos app. No matter what medium feels right for you, by relaying your mundane days and voicing your emotions, you'll get to know yourself just a little bit more and may notice patterns...

Like maybe you feel manic without starting the day with a yoga class... What if you became a yoga teacher??... Who knows what you could uncover about yourself when you start to become more self-aware.

5. Have a Post-School Plan

Our Post-School Plan will help you figure out what ya wanna do, and how you're gonna get there. It uses machine learning to give you career suggestions based on what you like to do, then helps ya come up with a plan to get there!

6. Travel

Obviously, right now, travelling around the world isn't on the cards. But hey, even a cheeky road trip or camping trip to get you out of your comfort zone and gain a grander perspective of the world could inspire you towards your path...

7. Consume art

Listen to music, watch interviews, read books, watch movies, look at art...

I would never have pursued screenwriting if I'd never watched the movie 'Almost Famous' at 17. Art can help you grow in so many different ways.

So, thanks for listening to my Ted Talk!
