ABOUT KURONGKURL KATITJIN
Kurongkurl Katitjin is Edith Cowan University’s Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research. Kurongkurl Katitjin plays a vital role in assisting the University to meet its commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We support University-wide activities and programs, as well as activities specific to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures. This includes:
- engaging closely with Indigenous people and communities;
- assisting Indigenous students to realise their full potential;
- ensuring that individual differences and diversity are respected; and
- contributing to Indigenous community development and sustainability through our students, staff and graduates.
ECU’s Indigenous programs date back to 1975, when the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program was first established at the Mount Lawley Campus.
INDIGENOUS UNIVERSITY ORIENTATION COURSE
The Indigenous University Orientation course prepares Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students with the academic skills and understanding required to engage with the knowledge and processes of university degree studies. In this course you'll learn about university writing skills, university reading skills and basic computer skills, plus some cultural understanding of what it's like studying for a uni degree.
ABORIGINAL UNIVERSITY READINESS ASSESSMENT
The AURA is dedicated pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students which provides holistic and personal approach to commencing the university journey. By completing the AURA Readiness quiz, you will be providing relevant information to ECU's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support teams to tailor your pathway and support based on your individual situation. By assisting you in establishing important support networks early, the transition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into an enabling or undergraduate course at ECU, ensures that you are well supported and well connected right from the start.
