If you’re 17-24 years old and interested in experiencing the Navy, Army of Air Force without making a long-term commitment, the ADF Gap Year program is a great option. The program will enable you to get paid for meaningful work while travelling around Australia, gain skills for life, and make lifelong friends.
Applications are currently open and with more than 20 roles to choose from – you’re sure to find one to suit you and your interests. The program offers experiences including what it’s like to be an officer, in management, engineering, logistics, warehousing, combat, security and administration.

NAVY
The Navy Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you well beyond the ordinary to experience everything the Navy has to offer. Whether you’re sailing across the seas by ship, exploring the oceans depths by submarine or soaring above by helicopter, you’ll be given skills and experiences which could extend into a longer-term role in the Navy or elsewhere.
ARMY
Action, adventure, exciting career opportunities and amazing mateship – the Army Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you out of the office and into barracks, training exercises and the field itself. Learn how to gain leadership skills, organise the logistical effort of the Army and work within a highly-skilled team.
AIR FORCE

How to apply
To be eligible to apply, you'll need to be an Australian citizen aged between 18 and 24 on completion of military training (dates vary by job). You'll also need to have completed Year 12 (subject passes required vary by job) and have passes in Year 10 English and Maths.
