The Electrical Trades Union of Australia (ETU) has been delivering for our members and the industry for over 100 years. We raise wages, improve conditions, promote safety and advocate for social justice.

Starting a career in the electrical industry through an apprenticeship can be a daunting experience. You will encounter unfamiliar people, terms, tools and concepts. It’s a diverse and rewarding career, but sometimes it can be hard to know your rights, especially when you’re just starting out.

That’s where the union comes in. We’re there to support you, and make sure you’re treated fairly and that you know what you should get paid and what your working conditions should be. Union members look out for each other, and we all work together to improve our pay and conditions over time. Trade union members negotiate their agreements together, and on average get paid 32% more than non-union members.

Whether you work in the energy supply industry, the domestic housing sector, mining, manufacturing, commercial construction or on a renewable wind or solar farm, the ETU understands how important electrical apprentices are for building a strong future in the electrical industries.

An electrical apprenticeship usually takes four years to complete and combines on-the-job learning (at work) with off-the-job theoretical training (at TAFE or Trade School). If you become a member of the ETU, we will support you on your journey through your apprenticeship and throughout your career.

If you are already an electrical apprentice or looking to start an apprenticeship, contact the ETU to find out more about how we can support you in having a rewarding career in the electrical industry. Ask us a question below.

Special announcement - ETU is having a Women's Introduction to Industry Day on the 29th of May, check out this site for more information  - https://www.weareunion.org.au/etu_womens_industry_day
