Who is NECA?

The National Electrical and Communications Association South Australia / Northern Territory Branch (NECA SA/NT) is the peak industry body representing electrical and communications contractors.

NECA SA/NT are responsible for providing tailored business advice, assistance and information to electrical and communications contracting companies, whose business is the selling, installation, servicing and repair of electrical and communications products. The Association also actively represents the needs and entitlements of contractors at all levels of government and industry, ensuring members' needs are heard.

Our Group Training Organisation, NECA Careers & Apprenticeships (NCA) employs apprentices and places them with electrical, communications, refrigeration and air conditioning host employers to gain practical on-the-job experience. We work hard to ensure we deliver quality apprentices to fulfill the skills needs of today and for the future.

Being an electrician or refrigeration/air conditioning mechanic doesn’t mean you need to be on the tools for the rest of your life. You could become a leading hand, a site supervisor, project manager or even start your own contracting business.

How Do I Become an Electrician or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic?

To become a fully qualified electrician or refrigeration/air conditioning mechanic, you will need to successfully complete a four-year apprenticeship.

If you want to earn while you learn and get a head start in your career while you’re at school, you can undertake a school-based apprenticeship. As a school-based apprentice you’ll get on-job training through paid work with an employer and off-job training with a registered training provider, all while completing your SACE.

You can apply for an apprenticeship with NECA Careers & Apprenticeships (NCA) simply by clicking on the Jobs section below.

NCA apprentices receive expert support, advice and mentoring throughout the apprenticeship.

If you’re at school and want to explore careers and courses in electrotechnology, speak to the school’s VET coordinator or career counsellor about training opportunities to help you get a head start on your career.
