A School Based Traineeship Gave Me The Motivation To Finish School

30 min watch

School can be a tough place to find your feet. You’re trudging between classes you might not find relevant and navigating a minefield of social circles – all while you’re expected to be figuring out what kind of career you want to pursue. For Blake, dropping out was a likely option until he decided to try something new that would shake up his school routine and give him an education that actually made sense.

In this webinar, Blake will be sharing how his experience doing an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) for the ACT Education Directorate helped him re-engage with school and form career goals he could be excited about.

Blake is a current student at Hawker College whilst completing his ASbA. During this time he has completed a Certificate II in Business and is currently completing a Certificate III whilst earning credit towards his Senior Secondary Certificate. He has worked at the CareersXpo, visited high schools to help students with their Pathways Plan and attended the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) to assist students with their Vocational Learning Options. Working in a professional environment has boosted his confidence and given him a head start in developing the skills necessary for the workplace. Instead of dropping out of school, Blake is on his way to finishing and plans on starting a Nursing degree next year.
