A day in the life

A baking apprentice’s typical workday starts early in the morning, typically around 3 or 4am. You daily duties will vary but a day of work will typically include the following:

🧑‍🍳 Preparing ingredients and equipment: This includes preheating ovens, making sure surfaces are clean and measuring out quantities of ingredients based on recipes.

🥣 Mixing and Kneading: Using the prepped ingredients, bakers then mix them to create dough and knead it to the desired consistency.

🍞 Shaping: The dough is then shaped to create the signature products customers love, from bread rolls to scrolls and croissants.

⏲ Baking: The dough is then put in the oven, while being monitored to make sure it’s all baked to perfection.

🔎 Quality control: The baked goods are then inspected for quality, consistency and appearance before being put on the racks for the new day’s customers to enjoy

🧼 Cleaning and sanitation: Finally, the kitchen is cleaned, equipment is inspected, and surfaces are sanitised to prepare for the next day of baking!
