The IT Crowd
The Wizard of Oz demanded we not pay attention to the ‘man behind the curtain!’ He was the one pulling all the strings and yet he wanted none of the credit.
The men behind the new curtain of technology for us are the ones working in IT. They are the brave souls who choose to use their skills to help the rest of us. They are the ones we call when our computer’s crash, when our clouds get hacked, and when our hard-drives play dead.
We depend on technology and it’s a great achievement for us to be able to say so. Having a computer at your fingertips now when your parents grew up without cell phones is incredibly cool. It’s this new age of technology that’s become the foundation for our generation. The crave for the next craze means the best part about IT is that there’s a new wave of innovation that hits the market about every 18 months. Which means a new skill set will be in demand and workers who have -or develop- those skills will be snapped up quickly.
Working in IT is, above all, a passion.
Our society is paving the way for the next generation of users. The general assumption about members of the IT crowd is that they need to be naturally intuitive toward technology, but it’s not necessarily that black and white. There are definitely people who are but it’s not the only way to break into the industry.
Pocket-protectors, thick-rimmed glasses, and a hunched back were the previous stereotypes of the IT workforce. Movies have poked fun, TV shows have had a good gag, but now it’s the ‘nerd’ of yesterday who gets the girls of today.
IT is an industry, all the same, and that means there are many undervalued means of entering that workforce because people think if you aren’t born with it then you’re already behind. It’s especially important to remember that not doing so well on your exams doesn’t mean your hopes of joining the technology sector are dashed.
AIPE offers Certifications and Diploma courses online that teach you the knowledge you need at the pace you want to learn at. Taking an online course means, above all, that you can be working and learning at the same time. These are the gateways into understanding what it means to work in IT and how you can get a career started.
Members of the IT sect always push for people to start at the entry level positions with companies that genuinely want them to succeed because it’s the right momentum in the right direction.
We laugh at the idea that all the IT industry does is ask us if we’ve tried turning the device off and on again, but it really can be that simple sometimes. Just as simple as trying a traineeship or entry-level position in the industry so that you can understand why turning it off and on can actually be the solution.
And maybe working in IT might mean you end up with a pocket-protector of your own, but you’d be surprised how useful those things are.
Don’t postpone your passion. Technology is one of our greatest achievements and it’s only taking us further. Everyone has to start somewhere and it’s your use of outlets like those at AIPE that get your foot in the door first. With the line for the next iPhone bigger every year, every step you take to get ahead will only benefit you in the future.
