Holidays are the light at the end of a very long tunnel crammed with studying, stress and slogging it at high school or uni. It's a sacred time to soak up the summer sun, party with your mates, catch up on Netflix series and just relax.

How could someone have the audacity to tell you that you should also spend your holidays grinding at a job...As if...

Hello, that person is me.

I love working. Perhaps it's the Capricorn in me. But having a job, especially over the summer when you have more time to commit to it, allows you to meet new people, pick up new skills and let's be real, make BANK baby. Don't get me wrong, I still bask in the glory of holidays, making sure I have enough free time to sunbake, hang with mates, road trip and adventure. But if you find a balance between work and free time, you can still have the best holidays ever!

The most obvious positive of having a job is earning mulla. With said mulla, you can save for a new car, go on a road trip or catch a flight somewhere, buy some festival tickets, some new clothes, or even just send it at the Maccas drive through... the list goes on and on. There is something special about buying something with your own well-earnt money that makes you appreciate it all the more.

Summer is long and can get boring. A job is a good way to turn boredom into productivity. Having to slog it at a job, whether it's retail, hospitality or whatever else tickles your fancy, will make you appreciate your days off so much more and inspire you to do as much as you can when you're free.

Through different jobs, you inevitably pick up new skills, whether you’re actually interested in the job or not. Perhaps you’re not planning on staying in hospitality forever, but you could learn some funky meals along the way and maybe you don't want to stay in retail forever, but your charisma may grow from attempting to charm customers. Oh and let's not forget that there are always perks of jobs. If you work at a cafe, you may score some free meals not to mention discounts.

You also become part of a community of people all slogging for dosh, all uniting in the pain of a crappy boss or the abundance of annoying customers. There’s the potential to meet lifelong friends at different jobs and create hilarious stories. That's pretty wholesome, to be honest.

My last point of why you should get a job this summer is it looks great on your resume! If you spend your holidays having a ball whilst also building your CV, you should be proud of yourself! That's a killer accomplishment.

Look, I know you probably had plans of reaping your freedom over the summer, but as I said, you can still do that and work as well.
