Hacks For Your First Week Of Work
Overview
- The first week of work at a new job is exciting and scary and nerve-wracking all rolled into one.
- Here are some hacks to help you out so you can lower that stress factor in the first week of work
1. Plan your morning the night before
On top of getting there early, get yourself ready the night before. At least for your first day of work. By setting things out ready to go you minimise the time spent faffing around looking for your lucky socks that have magically disappeared at a crucial time.
2. Coffee☕
Grabbing a coffee is a good way to start conversations with different people around the office. I found it super helpful in my first week to get coffees and ask about others jobs or what they were doing that day.
I not only started to grasp a better idea of what the business did, but also how each person fit into the puzzle.
3. Capitalise on your lunch breaks
In your first week you are really likely to go out for lunch with people. This is a great time to get to know your coworkers, learn some names and some specifics about them so you can remember those names.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions
Your first week is there for you to learn. If you don’t quite understand something or you forgot how something works.
Don’t spend half an hour trying to figure out if you have a good question or not. If it’s stopping you from being able to do what you need to do, ask it.
5. Spend time learning the basics
Make the most of your first week and the lack of understanding you have. People don’t expect perfection from you immediately or work that completely aligns with what it will look like in three months.
So spend that firt week becoming really accustomed to what your job involves, learning a heap, and meeting some new people. Remember a new job is a fun and exciting experience.
Starting a new job can always be a bit nerve-wracking but those jittery feelings don’t have to just be nerves. It’s exciting to be starting somewhere new. You get to meet lots of cool new people and learn more about a different business.
So get out there and go have fun at that new job!
