Why You Need To Stop Telling Yourself You Will Do It ‘One Day’
Ever thought that you had a great idea for an app? Got an awesome movie plot filed away in that brain of yours? Have a sick game concept that you know would take off?
We all have ideas we would love to pursue, but all too often we tell ourselves ‘one day’. One day we will get around to it, one day we will learn the skills, one day we will figure out how to get started. We put it off and put it off. And ‘one day’ never rolls around.
But think about it this way: how many amazing stories haven’t made it into the public eye because their makers were ‘too scared’ to tell them? How many apps that would’ve made our lives easier or more efficient haven’t been created because their mastermind ‘didn’t know how’? What are you putting off that could potentially make the world a better, more creative place to be? Not to mention make you a happier person for following your passions.
We want – nay, need – you to pursue your dreams. Want to make a movie? Create your own game? Got an eye for design? Got an app idea?
There’s a course for all that!
Diploma and Bachelor degree courses to be exact. If you don’t know how to get started in a creative industry, a course is a great way to go. You’ll not only learn all the skills you need, but you’ll also gain a qualification in something you love, and you’ll be making industry contacts along the way. It’ll give you the stepping stone you need to get to where you want to be.
The Academy of Information Technology (AIT) is the place for you if you’re looking for a course in 2D Animation, 3D Design, Film and Video, Game Design, Digital Design, IT, Mobile Applications Development or Game Programming. Their courses are some of the most unique on offer in the country, and their App Development and Game Programming degrees are one of a kind in Australia.
AIT gives you the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry, with talks from the likes of Deborah Riley and Glenn Melenhorst, the production designer and lead VFX artist on Game of Thrones respectively, and the design team behind Mad Max: Fury Road.
AIT also offers smaller class sizes for more one-on-one time with teachers and industry experts. Plus, you’ll gain plenty of hands-on experience in your chosen industry – something that many universities can’t offer.
There are AIT campuses in Sydney and Melbourne, so you’ll have the opportunity to study in the design capitals of Australia. There is also the option to study online if you’re keen on the Diploma of Digital Design.
Oh, and did we mention there’s no ATAR requirement for their Diploma courses?! And while their Bachelor degrees have an ATAR requirement of 60, if your marks are lower (or you didn’t get an ATAR at all), don’t fret. Just put together a bangin’ portfolio that showcases your talents, or ask for an interview to chat about your awesomeness, and you could get a second chance to nab a spot in one of their Bachelor courses.
Stop saying ‘one day’ and get a start in your dream course. If you want a taste of AIT, you can head along to their info evening on the 2nd March, or to a free workshop on the 4th March at the Sydney campus and the 18th March at the Melbourne campus. But get in quick, applications close the 10th March! You can find out more of the deets right here.
