How To Set Yourself Up For A Great Year in 2023
Overview
- Want to make the most out of 2023 but not sure where to start?
- Here are a few tips to help you reach your full potential this year.
New Year, new you, right? In a perfect world, we'd all magically become our ideal selves on the first day of the year. But in reality, less than a week into 2023 most of us had already lost track of what day of the week it was.
Falling out of routine is natural during the holiday period, but if you leave it too long, you'll blink at it'll be April already. So before 2023 kicks into full gear, here are a few ways you can set yourself up for a great year.
Try Out The ‘2 Minute Rule’
Starting some positive new habits is a surefire way to pop off this year, but it’s one of those things that is much easier said than done. Luckily, there’s a handy little trick called the “2 minute rule” which is designed to help cut out procrastination and start developing habits.
The idea is to simplify habits into something you’ll be able to do in two minutes. It works because this makes tasks way easier to start, and it’s much easier to continue doing a bigger task once you’re already onto it. For example, instead of saying you’ll go for a 5km run, tell yourself you’re going to get changed into your running clothes. You might as well go since you're already dressed for it, right? Or instead of forcing yourself to read before bed every night, just plan to read one page and see what happens – maybe you'll read a couple more cheeky pages.
Buy A Good Pillow
A new pillow might not be the first thing you think of when considering how to spend your hard-earned savings. Plus, when you look at the prices for high quality pillows, it can be pretty offputting when you can pick up a pillow that looks the exact same from Kmart for a tenth of the cost. But can you really put a price on a good night’s sleep? After all, we spend about a third of our lives sleeping.
When you invest in a new pillow, not only will you sleep better, but your neck and back will be thanking you big time in the long run. There are plenty of comfy and supportive pillows you can shop for online, but try and find a store that offers a trial period so you don’t risk spending a couple of pineapples on a pillow that isn’t for you.
Start A Fitness Routine
We all know that regular exercise is important, but it can be so hard to schedule it in around your busy life. But the key to a sustainable fitness routine is to make sure you aren’t overdoing it. It’s easy to get a bit too excited when you’re first getting started, but keep in mind that you want this routine to stick.
Make sure your fitness goals are achievable, even on your busiest days. You could even schedule a couple of days a week with bigger workouts, then a few others with a short burst for when things get a little hectic.
Set Some Goals For The Year
Whether or not you made a New Year’s resolution for 2023, setting goals is a whole other kettle of fish. Resolutions often focus on negatives, or things you want to change. On the other hand, goals are usually more positive, outlining things you want to achieve.
Look at some things you would really like to make happen during the year and write them down in a place you will remember. If your goal is something that has tangible progress, for some people it can be helpful to track that progress on an app so you can visibly see yourself getting closer to achieving your goal.
Setting out to do all these things at once could be a little overwhelming, so focus on the things that you think will benefit you the most. And if 2023 does start to get the better of you, just remember to always be kind to yourself.
