Despite the ball-bustin’ pandemic that shook our lives, I’m here to tell you that a career in events isn’t as futile as you might think right now. Sure, the job may look a little different to how you initially imagined it, but there are still events to be made!

First of all, let’s look at how broad the spectrum of careers in events are. From talent management to digital marketing, social media strategy, event planning, production, publishing and distribution, there are an abundance of options. I know what you’re thinking though, sure, there are a lot of careers, but are they still feasible nowadays?

Uhh, of course they are! The event industry is far from dead. Festivals and concerts are creeping back on us and if anything, more team players need to create an event to strategically work around corona.

It’s not just fezzie’s either. There’s weddings, music gigs, birthdays, conferences, award ceremonies, fashion shows and major sporting events which still need to be made! Have you forgotten about the Rolling Stone Awards coming up or even the Australian Open?! Let’s also not forget that one day, when corona eventually racks off, we’ll want events uniting us all again more than ever!

While many of us love to boogie until our feet ache and fall from friends’ shoulders in a mosh, some events pre-corona were not accessible to everyone. Now here’s the silver lining…

During 2020, we all relied on technology to keep us all united. That’s where digital events opened up a whole new world and brought events to people who weren’t able to access them. Let’s face it, virtual events are here to stay, so we need digital wizards now more than ever.

Still dreaming of organising a star-studded fezzie? You can. Remember that One World: Together at Home virtual concert that featured a red hot lineup last year? We boogied to Gaga, Stevie Wonder and Elton John from the comfort of our living room.

As well as bringing fun and light to people during a time where the world needs it, this is your chance to be innovative and bring events to everyone, anywhere.

So, what now?

If you’re sold on a career in events, look no further than JMC Academy’s Bachelor in Entertainment Business Management. As a student, you’d explore content production, marketing, entrepreneurship and business planning, film and TV production management, tour and festival management, marketing, branding, negotiating contracts, copyright and intellectual property… that is a heck of a lot to master, but JMC will make sure you’re the top of your game!
