When The Sun Sets On Your Summer Fling
Summer loving had me a blast, summer loving happened so fast...
Sometimes, the sun really does set on a summer fling.
As the temperature slowly drops and the beach gets less and less chockers, a fling sometimes ends due to a multitude of reasons.
Those reasons didn't matter during the hot summer nights abundant of bonfires and fish and chips on the beach. They didn't matter as you held hands walking up the foreshore or had to stop pashing because your icecreams were melting. But they matter when the bliss of summer ends.
Summer flings are euphoric and can feel like a dream. When they're over, you wonder if they really were a dream. I mean, there's something special about a dramaless relationship that is destined to be short-lived yet still exciting and spontaneous. There are no expectations.
Yet you're getting to know one another personally quite quickly which can be pretty intense and jarring. And as summer ends and you enter the real world of school, uni and/or work, it can be a little heartbreaking to say goodbye to that one person that made your beach days all the more special.
But alas, it was never meant to work out. Maybe it was because of distance or even the timing. Whatever factors destined you two to be apart when summer ends, you both knew deep down that it was nothing but a summer fling.
Yet, you got to know that person inside out. And as autumn approaches, your chats online will fade out and be less constant than they were when you were organising when your next beach date was going to be. It's a strange feeling knowing that someone you got to know so personally quite quickly is now living their own life, and so are you.
Maybe you've made your peace with it. You were happy to say goodbye and turn a new page. Or maybe you're a little heartbroken even if you don't want to admit it. I mean, it was only a summer fling, right?
As John Travolta sang so perfectly it turned colder that's where it ends, so I told her we'd still be friends, then we made our true love vow, wonder what she's doing now.
Summer flings can give you some serious whiplash, to be honest. But take it from me, they're worth it. So bloody worth it.
