Overview
  • There are so many things that make an Aussie Christmas absolutely top notch
  • Here's why I will not be jealous of my friends overseas posting about a white Christmas

I feel like Christmas is officially coming when I see the title sequence of a crappy Hallmark movie. The snow is falling, the love interests are already bumping into each other, and there is a Christmas tree in the back of every shot.

Unfortunately I don't live in a winter wonderland. Instead, it looks a little more like sunny beaches and humid mornings and forcing my Dad to put up the Christmas tree.

To make myself feel a little better about not getting that snowy Christmas morning I've always hoped for, here are my favourite things about an Aussie Christmas.

1. Sunny weather

While the idea of a white Christmas sounds great and all, there really is nothing like a gorgeous sunny day to wake up to on Christmas morning. As you open presents, your mum has the fans whirring trying to get a cross breeze going through the house.

2. Christmas lights

Driving around the streets on a warm summer night and hunting for Christmas lights was one of my favourite activities when I was little. Oop never mind... it still is!

But chrissy lights seriously hold a special place in my heart because they signify the beginning of my countdown. My parents love putting up the lights, and the first night of December is always when we light them up.

Going to sleep with flashing lights peeking through my curtains is the sign that Christmas is almost here and everything else that is magical and wonderful about the end of the year.

3. Chrissy pjs

The best thing about a good pair of chrissy pjs is that they can be worn all year round! I see them as absolutely essential to waking up and having a good Christmas day. I mean we all have those janky-looking photos from when we were ten - hair askew, sticking straight up, and your parents have shoved a camera in your face as you open your presents. Ahhh the memories.

My best investment in life are my chrissy pjs. They always manage to get me in the spirit of Christmas!

4. BBQ Christmas lunch

When you combine the sacred barbeque with a sunny Christmas morning, there is nothing more you can do to make the day even better. You have reached peak Christmas day vibes.

You can just be chucking a few things on the barbie for lunch, or you could be cooking your whole Christmas dinner on it, but the image of someone standing outside next to the barbie is what I deem the perfect Christmas image!

5. Boxing day sales

Now this is where my list really pops off. After the magical day that is Christmas, boxing day comes along to add that extra drop of excitement.

Sometimes Christmas may not be all that you hoped it could be, so boxing day sales is the perfect opportunity to cash in those paychecks, or that money from your grandparents and give yourself a Christmas present.

Celebrating that you’ve made it to the end of a long year is the perfect way to start a summer break, whether you celebrate Christmas or not.

And if you are overseas having a white Christmas right now, I don't wanna hear it.
