  • Look i’m the first person to say Christmas is my favourite time of the year, but even I dread the drama of a christmas morning
  • But as I would not have it any other way, here are my essential hacks to get through the cray cray that is chrissy morning

Christmas morning can be the start to a lovely day, or it can be an absolute nightmare. OR just a spoonful of drama may just make the day a little more inrtersting.

But we've all got to get through the day, from the annoying extended family you haven't seen in ten years, to trying to avoid the turducken (serioously, steer clear of that monstrosity!)

1. Come prepared for a drama filled morning

A plan is very important. You’ll need to prepare for things to go wrong. Have you got enough food? Has everyone remembered presents? Are there younger siblings or cousins who are bound to cry?

Anything is possible on Christmas morning. Emotions run high! Wake up with chill vibes and you can be assured that nothing will faze you. Plan to have a rest before lunch so everyone can have some me time.

2. No last minute christmas wrapping

This is vital to avoiding stress. Do not, and I seriously mean this, do not leave wrapping presents to the night before, or even worse, the day of!!!

Wrapping presents is not quick, particularly when you are stressed. And no one wants to be the designated stress wrapper. So make sure all your presents are sorted ahead of time and ready to just do the hand off in the morning.

3. Delegate jobs

Each person in the family is capable of doing something to help out. If you got younger family members, someone can be the designated playfriend. Everyone else should be in charge of one item of food or dessert.

With everyone having their designated jobs, no one is left feeling like they didn’t help enough, or that they did everything, and then it can be a fun family activity. The work will get done faster and everyone can have a chat while working away.

The delegation of jobs is one of the easiest ways to make the day run smoothly.

4. Have a banger of a playlist ready

This is another prepared type of hacks. Your playlist sets the vibes for the day. It should start playing as soon as everyone is up, till the end of the day.

You want all the usual hits - Mariah Carey, a bit of wham, Justin bieber and buble too.

A good playlist will give everyone a song or too to jam to, and will keep the vibes up. And if you are strict with when you can play christmas music, it is the last time for the next 11 months that you can play christmas music so make the most of it!

5. Know your escape routes

If worst comes to worst, and you haven’t followed my previous hacks, at least remember this one - know your nearest exit.

When you hit that moment of too much family time, or too many comments from that one family member, knowing ahead of time where you are going to get some space is essential. If you’re at home your room works great, but if not, know where the car is parked and who has the car keys, or find a hidden part of the house or garden you can hide away in.

Look, Christmas morning can have a big rush of emotions. Its happy, then there’s a kid crying, and you realise you may not have gotten that one thing you were hoping for, but it is just one day of your life.

Enjoy the moments that are worth remembering, and let go of the ones that aren’t. Next year is always just around the corner.
