  • Here's a handy little guide to help you give the best Christmas gifts

The last few weeks before Christmas always seem like a complete blur. On top of organising thoughtful gifts for family and friends, you’re probably also studying for exams, or busy tying up all the loose ends at work for the year.

Plus, there’s always that one friend, parent or sibling who’s impossible to buy for. So we’ve put together a list of tips to make gift giving a little easier this year.

Make a list of all the things the recipient is interested in

Take a few minutes to think about all the things that person enjoys, and some of the things you associate with them. Once you’ve got a solid list written down, think of one gift you could give them based on each item on the list.

Don’t worry about how good or expensive the gift is, because you should have plenty of options. Plus, you could even combine a few smaller pressies.

Ask yourself what that person needs

Everyone needs something. Even people who seem like they have everything. I mean, they have you don’t they? It might not be an item they need, maybe they’d like to pick up a hobby. If that’s the case, you could set them up with a starter kit for a hobby they might like to try out

If they’ve been kinda busy lately and you think they’d love a chance to relax, why not grab a voucher for a spa day, or a nice dining experience?

Think about what you want

If you’re buying for someone who has similar interests as you, think about some things that you might like to receive as a present. Chances are, they will too. This method is pretty easy – just keep them in mind every time you’re online shopping for yourself.

Worst case scenario, they aren’t a fan of the gift. But hey, maybe you could offer to swap it with one of your own.

You be the gift

We’ve all been there. Christmas is around the corner, you’ve haven’t bought a single present, and you’re a bit short on cash. Sure, your presence is a present. But you can do better than that.

Try giving them a voucher for your personal taxi services that can be redeemed a few times over the next year, or offer to clean their living space during a busy period.

Give the gift of laughter

If all else fails, you could try to find a pressie that’ll make them laugh. Just make sure your gift isn’t a complete burden on the recipient.

You could even hide a great gift behind the Trojan horse of something a little bit shit. Like the disc for a video game they’ll love hidden inside a Nickelback CD case (just keep the actual case handy incase they want that too). Another great gag is the classic “wrap it to make it look like something else'' trick, which is most effective when the wrapping looks like something super obvious.

Overall, remember that your friends and family are going to appreciate the gesture no matter what you give them. But hopefully these tips will take a bit of strain off your Christmas shopping this year.
