Throughout high school, you’ll meet kids that have it all figured out (or at least think they do). These are the ones that have created a fool-proof life plan at the age of 15. Sounds ridiculous, right? Fear not, because as time goes on you’ll soon find out that there is no such thing as a life plan.

In fact, it’s perfectly okay to not have no idea wtf you’re going to do once you’re in the real world. You might try to cater your career to what you studied in high school but soon realise that perhaps high school didn’t really offer a variety of options. But don’t stress, because you’re not alone.

We conducted a few surveys and received a bunch of responses from people like you all around Australia. We compiled all your responses into our shiny After The ATAR III report. And we found 51% of you said figuring out your future was your biggest struggle right now.

What’s more likely the case is that you’ll change as a person, and naturally so will your life. With this in mind that your plan isn’t fool-proof, you can really start to think about creating a plan that isn’t so rigid – especially when it comes to thinking about what sort of career you’re keen on. And we’re bringing you the Year13 Future of Work Expo to help get you started thinking about what’s on the cards for you and your career.

Our careers are a massive part of our lives and research tells us we’re gonna have a lot of ‘em over the years. That’s why it’s important to find a career we love. But how can we tell if we’ll love that career? How do we know if it’s the one? With all these questions and no answer ever the same, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to get prepared.

In fact, over one third of you feel that you’re not in control of your future and even used the following emotions to describe how you’re feeling about the future:

  • Excited
  • Anxious
  • Passionate
  • Stressed
  • Happy
  • Fearful

While that is a hotpot of bittersweet emotions, 94% of you feel it is important to like your job. And you won’t know until you give it a go, but you may also realise perhaps that job may not be for you a few weeks, months or years down the track.

When you start working on a plan, you’ll have a myriad of different options available to you because you’ve given it a thought. Not only that, but it can contribute to you feeling in control of your life and helping out your mental health by connecting you to a happier more fulfilled future.

Now is the perfect time to start, feel informed and kickstart that plan with the Year13 Future of Work Expo coming up.
