17 Thoughts You’ll Have When Wanting To Change Your Uni Degree
If your grades have been dropping, your motivation slipping and your passion fading because of your uni degree choice, you might be considering jumping ship and sending it into a different course.
It's safe to say, your thoughts might look a little like this:
- I'd rather poke my eyes out than sit through another lecture in this uni degree
- Everyone else is raising their hand with extensive questions and scrawling notes furiously. Why can't I motivate myself to be like everyone else here?
- I definitely can't motivate myself to do this for another few years. Neg out.
- But If I ditch, I'll be back at square one... Oh god, I'll have to cop those awkward icebreaker activities with a whole new group of people. "Tell me your name, where you're from and what you're most proud of in your life"... Well, I'm most proud of not sniggering at how colossally cringey this is.
- Not to mention, I'll be behind all my mates. They'll all graduate before me.
- Why couldn't I have just been a prodigy at something or known what I should pursue since I came out of the womb? Then I wouldn't be so indecisive about my degree.
- If I could summon a genie, I'd wish for them to tell me what I'd enjoy pursuing the most
- Actually, I'd ask for millions of dollars. I wouldn't have to worry about pursuing anything until I got bored.
- Wow wow wow. That's it! What would I actually pursue if I didn't have the pressure of time and money?
- I think I've already got the answer, and that's what I want to transfer too... It must be the right option then.
- Let the record show that I'd also wish for world peace.
- What will my parents say when I tell them I'm switching careers? Dad will probably tell me to just shine it on. He doesn't like quitters
- But I mean, this is my career we're talking about. I probably shouldn't pursue something that I have lukewarm feelings for. And it's not really quitting. It's just spicing it up a bit.
- What if I change my mind about my next uni degree?
- I guess my mate Claire switched her degree twice and is now super successful and happy.
- But I actually think, heck, I know that I'll like this next course soooo much more.
- I hope there are hot people in my new lectures.
Alright alright! That's enough to give anyone a headache!
The rundown of changing uni degrees
Look, switching uni degrees is a pretty big choice in your life so fair enough for the head noise, but now is the time to take action. Talk to your 'rents, friends, people in your course now, people in the course you want to transfer to.
Do your research, read articles (hey there, yep just like ours) and watch YouTube videos. Definitely book a meeting with your course advisor as they'll be able to map out an easy process of change, potentially giving you credits for your new course or working out a plan of attack for subjects.
At the end of the day, people change! Our passions, interests and opinions change with us. It's fine that you've realised, hey, this path I'm taking isn't a vibe... Let's find another one.
