Money doesn't make the world go round... but tbh, it wouldn’t hurt to be swimming in it. All I'm saying is, it'd be pretty red hot if after all this time, it did grow on trees. But alas, sometimes we're left high and dry with little as $4.55 left in our bank account.

Especially now, in today's chaotic climate, money is proving to be a bigger problem than ever before. But my new favourite word is 'sanguine' which means 'optimistic or positive, especially in an apparently bad or difficult situation.' So let's stay sanguine and save some moolah, baby! Just in isolation, of course.

1. Decrease your dang spending

It goes without saying right? Even so, my mate has become so bored in self-isolation that she's resulted in buying everything and anything online.

Try to distract yourself from wanting more, more, more and be content with what you have! Spice up your old clothes with some Pinterest DIYs instead of buying a whole new wardrobe and read all the books you own but haven't delved into yet before buying more...

2. No shame in the Centrelink game

My roommate is a stubborn Taurus and although she's lost both her jobs and is behind on 3 weeks rent, she still refuses to sign up to Centrelink. Let's be real, everyone is, as my dad so elegantly put it, "up sh*t creek without a paddle" right now. There's no shame in the Cenno game.

Suss out the deets online, swallow your pride and graciously shake the helping hand!

3. List all your skills and hobbies

No matter how niche and nuanced, make a list of your skills.

If you can edit videos, look at how you can edit clips for companies or Youtubers. If you're a pretty gnarly artist, reach out to brands that might need advertisements and upload your art to your Instagram. If you watch a hell of a lot of movies, start reviewing them online.

The ideas are limitless so get pondering! And let's also not forget the number of people that have gotten fame and glory from a few videos on Youtube or Tik Tok.

4. Start teaching those skills and hobbies online, baby!

With all those skills and hobbies you've listed, ask yourself whether you'd be able to teach them online.

Online tutoring right now is the way of the future. If you're a maths whizz or a walking, talking thesaurus you might as well capitalise on your great mind and teach students eager to learn.

Not to mention, you can teach basically anything online whether that is sewing DIYs, cello tutorials or gameplays. Especially now whilst everyone is stuck indoors, there's a high demand for people to learn some gnarly skills, so get in quick and teach what you know!

5. Sell your stuff

Humans are pretty talented at hoarding. We keep clothes we never wear, books we never read, instruments we never use... you get the point.

A decluttered house is a decluttered mind so embrace minimalism and get rid of your unwanted items! Depop is a perfect app to sell clothes you don't give enough love. Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Gumtree are also perfect websites to get rid of anything.

So go forth and save some dosh whilst staying safe and indoors!
