Moving cities, states, heck, even countries, is elite. Whether it’s for study, a post-graduation escape or to spice up your career and lifestyle, packing your bags to live somewhere fresh n’ funky has a multitude of perks.

Here’s why you should bite the bullet and do it.

You’ll gain new interests and hobbies 📹

A change of scenery will bring new hobbies and interests through the lifestyle, the people you meet, and career prospects.

Maybe you weren’t a surfer ‘til you moved to Perth, or you didn’t know many Aussie bands ‘til you moved to Melbourne… Maybe your new mates love camping, climbing and hiking, and now you’re whipped too. Or they’re into hosting grand dinner parties, so now you’re becoming a bangin’ chef.

You’ll have anecdotes up the wazoo 😂

You know when you travel overseas, and something rewires in your brain momentarily? You’ll spark a chinwag with anyone, party a lot longer in the night and do things you never thought you would, like skydive or ride a motorbike. You become a wilder version of yourself and why not? No one knows you there anyways.

A similar sensation comes with moving cities. You’re more open-minded and willing to try new things to immerse yourself in this new lifestyle and make friends.

When you travel, you return with a zillion stories. Moving cities gives you anecdotes and experience as well because it’s an adventure too!

You’ll make new mates 👬

It’s true what they say: Making new mates gets harder when you get older. But, moving to a new city will inspire you to get creative with meeting people.

Maybe you’ll get a pub job. Maybe you’ll join an AFL team. Maybe you’ll go to a gig alone and chat to people in the crowd. You could join a book club, volunteer for a charity, go on Hinge dates, do pottery or yoga classes… there are so many ways to meet people, but moving to a new place gives you more of a push to go out and find them. And you will!

You get a fresh start ✨

Sometimes we can fall into limbo when we’ve been in the same place for too long. We have our routine. We know our neighbors, the customers that come to work, and the people that work at the supermarket. We go on autopilot when walking through the same street every day.

A new city brings a new routine, new people, and new streets. A fresh start where you can be anyone you wanna be and leave any negativity or toxicity behind if need be.

You’ll be an independent lord 💪

There’s nothing wrong with spending your life surrounded by people you know, love, and trust. But you can also lean heavily on these people for comfort and validation.

Heading out into the world on your own, without the security of those you’re used to, not to mention the whole environment you’re used to - the shops, the beaches, the parks, the gyms, the pubs…etc, is a huge lesson in independence that’s hard to come by in other ways.

Humans are always growing, changing, and shifting into the best versions of themselves. Long story short, moving to a city speeds up that growth by a landslide. So what are you waiting for? If there's an inkling inside you searching for a new adventure, this is your sign to listen to it!
