3 Important Things To Consider When Choosing A University
University has a core purpose. It gives you a shiny degree, duh! But what else can it offer?
Look at it this way. I don’t reminisce on my uni years and picture the caffeine-filled days, studying like a madman. Instead, I see the lifelong mates I made in lecture halls and in uni clubs, societies and teams, the joint study sessions in the uni library or nearby cafes, the strolls around the vibey campus and the bangin’ uni social events…
My uni experience was a memorable one and yours can be too! So here’s what should be on your radar when choosing a university.
1. Support
Feeling personally supported at university can make or break your experience. You really don't know what's going to happen during your uni experience - like hey, idk, a global pandemic maybe? 🤔
You’ll want to make sure you’re attending a uni that wants to back you through anything and has your health, well-being and overall success as a priority.
Our mates over at Edith Cowan University (ECU), not only pride themselves on their incredible teaching quality, their diverse array of courses and their campus facilities, they also provide an abundance of support in terms of study progress, health and wellbeing. They want to see you succeed no matter what life throws at you, and that is the most relieving feeling in the world.
2. Location
If you’re not from Perth (*cough* west coast best coast *cough*), why not suss out taking a leap and relocating there to study at ECU? I mean, not only has ECU been rated 5-stars by their graduates for teaching quality for 14 years (Good Universities Guide) and also been ranked Australia’s best public university for undergraduate overall experience (Australian Government’s latest Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching Survey), they are also in a 11/10 location.
If you’re looking to spend your mornings in lecture halls and afternoons surfing, swimming or studying at the beach, ECU is where you’re meant to be! In fact, moving cities for uni makes the whole experience all the more exciting whilst also giving you a fresh start academically! Think about all the new cafes, restaurants, beaches, cinemas, shops, parks and pubs you’d be strolling through and all the new faces you’d be meeting whilst studying at an unbelievable university! It doesn’t get any better than that!
3. Social aspects
Meeting friends and potential collaborators are the appeals of university! I mean, you're surrounded by likeminded people and some real magic can be made! I've worked with a tonne of people I shared tutorials and lectures with whilst becoming best mates with others.
And if you’re asking “how on earth am I gonna make mates in class?” – no dramas. You’ll want to consider a uni that has social activities galore.
At ECU, you’ll have your social calendar jampacked with a lot of opportunities to network, make mates and create hilarious stories.
And if you’re after something a bit more tailored, think about clubs and associations. ECU have a tonne of social clubs and associations meaning you have an unreal opportunity to meet even more people who share the same interests as you. Whether you’re sporty, academic or a movie buff, ECU has what you’re after.
