In this fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, frazzled and utterly burnt out. Maybe you’ve had way too much on your plate, you’ve been working non-stop or uni has been ruthless and relentless. It’s easy for things to pile up leaving you exhausted and unmotivated.

Here are some things you can do to calm down and find your lust for life again. Actually, the first thing you should do is listen to Lust For Life by Iggy Pop. Now that is a banger.

1. Waste Some Time

Dude, it’s time for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Waste some time! Binge watch some TV, veg out, play some video games, dance around to your favourite tunes, strum the three chords you know on guitar, fall down a rabbit hole of obscure Youtube videos… Do the things that you feel guilty doing when you’re flat out. Do the things that you love to do that may not be particularly productive. John Lennon once wisely said that “time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” Indulge in some wasted time.

2. Re-read a book you know that you love

Feeling burnt out can be associated with a lack of control. Things have been thrust at you left, right and centre, leaving you feeling completely swamped.

When we re-read a book that we loved before and already know everything that's going to happen, it gives us a little bit of control back. But most importantly, taking the time to enjoy a good read whether you’re sitting in a hammock, on your bed or waiting for the bus and taking a cheeky vacation from reality is a perfect way to relax your overworked brain.

3. Catch up with friends and fam

Hang out with people that bring you good vibes. Let them inspire you, enlighten you and most importantly, have a laugh. Bring them to the cinemas, a gig, a meal, a picnic, a day at the beach… Get out there and hang with some top-quality people who are there for you.

4. Get back on track

I know this sounds boring but this is important… LOOK AFTER YOURSELF! Make sure you get enough sleep - seven to nine hours is great. Become friendly with fruit and veggies and reap the physical bliss that comes from nutritious meals. Drink more water and keep a drink bottle with you wherever you go. Go outside and get some quality vitamin D. Do some dang exercise whether it’s a hardcore cardio workout, dancing wildly at a gig or a walking around your local streets. I know these are basic needs but when we’re burnt out and lacking motivation, it’s easy to neglect them.

5. Find a new hobby

Add some spice to your life by picking up a fresh hobby. Begin to learn a language online, pick up a new instrument, buy a skateboard and attempt doing a kickflip, learn how to cook an extravagant meal… Reap the benefits of there being a Youtube tutorial on literally everything and find a new skill that you can look forward to practicing. Spend any spare time you have working on something new.

Just find inspiration again, hang with some people that bring good vibes and look after yourself! You’ll be back into the swing of things in no time.
