The end of the uni year is has hit, and all you’re doing is daydreaming about the long summer holidays you’re about to have, and pointedly not thinking about that Saturday exam you had last week that you turned up to hungover. So we’ve compiled a list of a few things you can do over the uni break (aside from partying every day) that could potentially improve your life. Some of them, we said. Not all of them.

1. Sleep

Yes, holidays are the perfect opportunity to catch up on some much needed sleep after a long semester (and exams). All night, all day. Sleep until you physically cannot sleep anymore!

2. Finish a whole season of TV in one day

We know you’ve done it before, but that’s not going to stop you from doing it again and again. Holidays is the perfect time to fire up Netflix or perfectly legally (cough) acquire copies of that show you’ve been meaning to watch all year, get comfy in bed and not resurface unless it’s an absolute emergency (aka you run out of snacks).

3. Learn to cook

We said some of these would improve your life, didn’t we? Learning to cook means that when you move out and your mum isn’t cooking you dinner anymore, you’ll be able to eat more than just takeaway and jaffles every single day. It also means that you’ll get to eat the product at the end, which, yes, and isn’t it just generally a pretty good skill to have?

4. Travel

Whether you jetset overseas or just head up the coast, the summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to get some time away from life and just relax. Take the opportunity to explore new lands and cultures, or surf a few new beaches – no responsibilities, no worries.

5. Volunteer

Boost your CV, help others and help yourself by doing a little charity work these holidays. You can even combine it with travelling and go overseas to work with animals, children and communities. It’s something a little extra, a little more than just lying around for a few months.

6. Festivals

Is it a coincidence that festival season lines up so well with holidays? I think not. There’s so many to choose from, one for everyone’s taste, so there’s no excuse to not spend a day or two this season partying it up in a field listening to great music with a bunch of other drunk people.

7. Stay up all night on the Internet

You know when you get lost in a Youtube vortex or a Reddit black hole and next thing you know it’s 6am and the sun is coming up? Summer holidays are the perfect time for this, because you can spend the whole next day sleeping it off.

8. Read

Gotta keep that brain stimulated…or not…
