Overview
  • It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point in time. We’ve all reached this point in time, whether you’re starting a new school year, or uni semester, or fifteen jobs.
  • Let’s be real, it can be absolutely exhausting sometimes.

Starting something new is always exciting. For me, it was my first semester of uni.

But I soon found myself in a job, or two, and uni assignments expected a little more forward planning then I first realised. I was planning a quick trip away with my sister, needed money, so was working hard, studying hard and was absolutely exhausted.

Even though I was doing all these exciting things, the thought of getting out of bed in the morning was painful. All I wanted was an entire day where I could lay around the house and do nothing. Both my jobs required me to wake up before the sun was up, which added up to a smaller amount of sleep than I wanted.

I was knackered. Working and uni is great, but I also needed some more time to decompress from my days and recharge so I could be excited for the things I was learning and accomplishing.

My first semester of uni finished and I finally had a bit more time on my hands to reflect, and readjust my work schedule. After doing that and having a few weeks of just working, I felt much better.

It turns out that literally all I needed was a few hours each day to myself, where I wasn't expected to do anything for anyone, except self-care for myself.

So, if you are noticing the same signs that I went through: not being exciting for exciting life moments, just wanting some time to recharge, and being absolutely knackered, maybe it's time to have a quick weekend away, or set aside an hour each night of you time if you can’t take time off. Your friends will still be your mates if you tell them you need a night in, and the work you need to get done isn’t going to get any worse if you take an hour for some self-care!

Finding time for yourself and having that balance meant that as soon as I started my scond semester, I felt so much more grounded. I had a bit more time on weekends to have a sleep in, but was still busy doing lots of fun, interesting and exciting things.

Find your balance point and enjoy what you're doing. Don't let yourself get too carried away with responsibilities because sometimes, all you need is just a well-deserved rest 😊
