The Realities Of Studying And Working In Medicine
Ever watched half an episode of Grey's Anatomy then decided you're a full-fledged medical expert?
Haven't we all!
Unfortunately, binge-watching Netflix doesn't look all that great on a resume (apart from the bonus points for creativity) when it comes to getting a job. In reality, medicine healthcare workers are the superheroes of the real world. They’re the ones making sure our population is healthy. People like to think they're in capable hands - which is why the journey of studying and working in medicine is one worth discussing.
What's life in medicine really like?
At the last Year13 Expo, young doctor Anders Sideris gave a webinar on the realities of studying and working in medicine.
Asides from being a total legend, Anders is passionate about Head and Neck oncological surgery and teaching the future generation of doctors how to absolutely nail their careers.
In this webinar, Anders shares his story and explores how studying medicine translates into his career in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
Anders holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Sciences from the University of Newcastle. He’s forged an impressive career in Medicine, both practicing and researching. He’s received the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship in 2019 and became an Associate Lecturer at UNSW Prince of Wales Clinical School from 2018 to 2020. Now, he’s getting his hands dirty as a Head and Neck Registrar at The Wollongong Hospital where he looks after unwell head and neck patients and is first responder to Wollongong emergencies. Talk about getting amongst it!
