  • Want your dream job but not sure how to impress the one in charge? Fancy being your boss' new fave, or better yet, your own boss? Take a seat n' buckle up, here's how to charm your way to the top ✨

Some people are naturally super likeable, memorable and get where they wanna be without much effort. Annoying, right? 😵‍💫

I'm talking about their ability to get promoted, impress or land that sick job hundreds went for. But what is it that makes people want to hire them? What skill is it that sets them apart? Well I'll tell ya: charm 😏

Among other things, being a charmer has a massive impact on how you're remembered. And it's not always super obvious - but there are a bunch of clever ways to make a lasting impression. I've had to learn heaps of little tips and tricks over time that've turned out to be really helpful and insightful when it comes to career progression and making good with the owner, CEO or whoever is the one making all the calls.

So if you wanna make a positive impression on others around you and you're ready to attract everything you want in your career, here are a few cheeky nugs of info that have really helped me along the way. ✨

Do 'ya research

This might seem obvious, or even easy, but trust me it's one of the most valuable and powerful things you can do. Research the company you want to work for, the people who might interview you as well as other significant employees.

It gives you an upper hand if you know more about the company or person (in a professional sense) and shows you care. If you have a firm grasp of the company and why it’s hiring, the interviewer will be super impressed and figure out that you're interested.

Use their names

Here's a bit of psychology for ya! Have you noticed the way it makes you feel when someone new uses your name when they speak to you? Pretty good,  I reckon. That's because it signifies we're important and valued. Subconsciously, we create a more meaningful connection with someone who remembers and uses our name. 🥰

Learning peoples' names and using them - not like constantly, but enough - is a proven way of making people feel important, involved in the conversation and engaged.

Give decent eye contact

This one's a no-brainer, but a toughie 👀. I've always found eye contact reeeally hard, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It can be a source of anxiety for a lot of people, but it is defo important.

It means you're really paying attention and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. It's ok to not use as much eye contact when talking, but make sure you do when listening.

Eye contact can be mind-blowingly terrifying with a stranger, so I usually try to picture them in their undies to remind me that they're just another human! Another good tip is to look near their eyes, but not right into them, or look away before coming back to eye contact.

Let your vulnerabilities show

Weirdly, studies show that making small mistakes or faux pas in interviews can actually help you get the job. If you stumble on just one word, or laugh at yourself for tripping or spilling something, it actually endears people to you by showing your vulnerabilities.

Everyone makes mistakes, it's how we deal with them that matters. If you're able to move on quickly, pull yourself together and own your human-ness, it reminds people you're just like them. Don't be afraid to show your vulnerabilities!

Prepare for small talk

Ugh, this one can be brutal. If you're not used to making small talk with people it can be excruciating. But don't worry, there are lots of ways to make it less painful. Small talk is just a part of life, and in the professional world it sets you apart.

Even though what you're chatting about may be unimportant, the way you come across and make people feel isn't.

To be good at small talk means making people feel comfortable, at ease and relaxed. Even if you're not feeling that way yourself, it's actually fairly easy to make others feel chill - just smile, listen to their replies, agree with what they're saying and ask them about themselves or try and find something in common to chat about.

Fingers crossed these lil' tips will set you apart from others, helping you to become a magnet for success. You got this!
