3 Ways To Make Studying Easier
Overview
- Sometimes, the hardest part about studying is starting
- Everyone's approach is different, so the best studying technique for your friends won't always work for you
- Here are a few tricks to keep, so you can keep your studying skills in check!
If you're the type of person who needs a bunch of lists to even think about starting a task, or can do hours of productive work anywhere but at home, OR can only work when that deadline is knocking on your door... congratulations!
You are perfectly normal. In fact, if you asked your friends, you would be sure to find them going through the exact same thing.
Here are a few tricks I have learnt to make studying less hard:
1. Change locations
Studying can be boring and repetitive. So it can feel really freeing to change it up.
Go to the library, a park, or a friends house. Swap desks with your sibling for the day. Move to the dining room table or under your veranda in the backyard. Heck, you could even try studying in your car (not my first idea comfort-wise but you can't knock it till you try it).
Sometimes, the only way to reset your procrastination habit is fully tricking your brain into finding that new study zone!
2. Find a fun app to reward yourself
Sometimes, all we need is a little reward that means nothing in reality, but helps us put down that phone and pick up a pen. My two favourite applications are Forest and Focuskeeper. These two apps have diligently pushed me through some hard procrastination times.
Forest grows trees based on how long you don't use your phone for. In my opinion, it's freaking cute! Focuskeeper helps you to take proper breaks. Simply set the timer for 25 or more minute intervals of work, and then each 25 minutes you get a 5 minute break.
This definitely helped trick myself into giving myself a weekend while also getting the work I needed to get done, done!
3. Ask your friends for their study techniques or schedules
We're all for trying something new. Sometimes, it might not work out, but others could be a goldmine. Finding the thing that works for you is hard because everyone is different. But we can capitalise on our friends strengths!
Ask your friend for their study schedule and implement it into your own routine for a weekend or a few days. Give it a hot crack, not just a one and done. You could even get your whole friend group into it and each week, switch up to another person's pratices!
Your last few years of high school are not easy, and unfortunately, are not meant to be easy. But by finding some ways to make studying that little less hard, can make it easier when you need it most!
